Autumn Neighborhood Painting Collection

I love fall. I love the colors of the trees, the chill in the air, how the light gets softer, and the coziness of it all. This fall I really got to fully enjoy the change in the season, and it inspired me so much that I HAD to paint what I was seeing. This series of paintings was inspired by all the walks I took through my neighborhood and slowly witnessing the trees changing and the leaves falling. It was inspired by the simple beauty that is all around us, and appreciating the beauty that exists in our own backyard.

This is a little different from my abstract work in subject matter but uses a lot of the same style of brush strokes and color palettes you might see in my abstract pieces. I wondered if these paintings were even something I should put out into the world, as those familiar with my work might be surprised to see paintings like these. But when creative inspiration strikes I have no say in the matter, I just have to paint what I’m inspired by, and not put myself into a box. That’s what’s so great and hard about being an artist. There’s so much I want to paint but I question what to show as I want to keep my work “cohesive.”

I took hundreds….maybe even close to thousands of photos of my neighborhood from September through November. I wanted plenty of reference photos while I was in my studio painting. I was drawn to the giant trees, their colors of yellows, oranges, and reds, but also how there were shadows being cast in interesting ways on the houses and sidewalks.

Fall feels so quick and fleeting to me and I want to hold on to it so tight. Painting is my way of capturing it and holding on to it a little longer.

These paintings come in a variety of sizes (6x8 in, 9x12 in, and 11x14 in) and focus. In some, the main focus is, of course, the trees. In others, it’s the shadows on a house and sidewalk, and the playfulness the light creates. I wanted to capture a variety of views in these works and keep it interesting from piece to piece. I hope these works inspire you to see all the beauty in your own backyard as I saw in my own.

Additionally, these paintings are on paper as this is a more affordable medium. And I wanted to give people the option to purchase art at a lower cost point, especially as we approach the holidays. Art is such a meaningful gift, and art on paper is something that’s easy to ship, easy to pack, and easy to gift.
