Artwork that Matches Your Home Decor Style

Most people have a general idea of what their home’s style is. Or at the very least, a Pinterest board full of home decor styles, and how they eventually want their home to look. I wanted to pair artwork with different home styles. Because I LOVE thinking about how art pairs with different things. I mean, hello, have you not seen my astrology art series?!? I’m an artist, which naturally makes me a visual person.

I think and learn visually. You could explain something to me until you’re blue in the face, but it usually doesn’t register unless I can paint a picture in my mind, or someone literally paints one for me. This is why I love Samin Norsat’s book, “Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat” because the book is illustrated and her cooking techniques make soooo much more sense to me! Ok, enough of my little tangent of how much of a visual person I am. Enjoy my pairings of art and home decor styles.

ART DECO

Art Deco all about glam, rich colors, and really making a home feel luxurious. It’s not subtle. it’s a style that has super intricate details. The shapes are streamlined and really lean towards geometric. Someone who has this style in their home is not timid, which is seen in their use of animal print, and or course sunburst mirrors, and over the top, floor-to-ceiling patterned wallpaper.

A 1920’s vintage poster would echo that glamourous art deco vibe. Think, anything that depicts someone from that era in her full, glammed up garb. Posters with a rich color palette and geometric shapes.

FARMHOUSE

If you like cozy, warm and rustic vibes, Farmhouse is probably your home’s style. The furniture leans toward more traditional. Real farmhouses were typically designed with items that could actually be used, which still rings true to the style now. It’s not showy and decor is practical. It’s in tune with nature and uses materials from nature.

With that idea of bringing nature inside, and because it is called FARMhouse, after all, photos or paintings of animals, especially farm animals would feel right at home in this style.

COASTAL

You don’t need to live by the beach to bring the Coastal style to your home. It’s all about soft tones and making the home feel breezy. Similar to the Farmhouse style, Coastal also likes to bring the outside in by way of earth tones, linen upholstery, and plenty of blue colors. There’s a ton of light in these homes, and it never feels dingy, cramped or dark.

Because it feels like summer all year round in this style, art that reflects those summertime vibes would just add to the airiness of the home. Like an aerial print of the beach from Gray Malin, a boat painting from Blakely Little, or a simple but beautiful painting of the ocean by Brynn Casey.

BOHEMIAN

Bohemian homes are full of plants, lots of plants, earth tones, and ambient lighting. The person whose home has employed this style probably has trinkets from their travels and furniture that tells a story. This style mixes textures and patterns liberally. Most likely an art lover, they probably already have a few pieces of artwork adorning their walls.

If your home style is Bohemian, my guess is you might have a macrame hanging or wall tapestry already. So, elevate the Bohemian look with vintage art, as it stays true to your boho vibes by having some history.
